I couldn’t find any documentation on the site or in their software itself. So this is a basic description. I am trying to find more documentation on it, but I have not found any yet. The program does work for me.

So, Messiah has just been nominated for a Guggenheim, and they asked me to write an essay about my reaction to the nomination. I’m currently doing some thinking about all this and came across this delightful anecdote, which I thought you might like to share, about Rabbi Moshe H. Hasen (right) and what he taught about the Messiah.

I would have thought that the whole Guggenheim process would have been completely off-limits for Hasen; but apparently some very smart people thought otherwise.

The note goes on to say:

“Our favorite professor in seminary, Rabbi Moshe H. Hasen, told a joke about how he would preach on the Messiah and his disciples always heard the word Messiah, but he never actually said the word Messiah. The congregation would then challenge him, saying, ‘Who is the Messiah?’ To which he would reply, ‘He is here today, but he will not be here tomorrow.’

“He had to explain what this meant for about three months. ‘I am the Messiah, but I am not the Messiah. He will come, but he may not come.’

“The congregation loved this joke,” and the author explains that they told him it was the first and only time that Hasen had ever told them a joke.

Mannitol hexanitrate is the organic compound with the formula C6H14NO8. It is a colorless solid. The compound is a polyhydric nitrate of mannitol and is used as a source of nitrate for explosives.

Synthesis and reactions
Mannitol hexanitrate is prepared by nitration of mannitol with nitric acid:

C6H14NO8 + 6 HNO3 → C6H14NO7(NO2)3 + 6 H2O

The first step is achieved by treating mannitol with concentrated nitric acid, resulting in the formation of mannitol nitrate (C6H14NO7). Then, by heating the mixture to 140 °C, the mannitol nitrate decomposes to form mannitol hexanitrate.

Mannitol hexanitrate is the primary explosive component of T3, a high-density explosive.

Mannitol hexanitrate is not water-soluble. However, mannitol is about 14% soluble in water. The water content of mannitol hexanitrate is 2.4 wt% (w/w), and it is a solid; water will not dissolve it. Thus, the material is relatively stable when not in contact with water. However, the compound is sensitive to shock and impact and will undergo exothermic decomposition when impacted by a hard object. Heat generated by the impact can cause decomposition of the compound. The reactions are:

C6H14NO8 → C6H14N4O4 + 2 H2O
C6H14N4O4 + H2O → 2 C6H12N2O4

Mannitol hexanitrate is extremely sensitive to shock. It is very difficult to handle the material because of its propensity to explode, even when placed in a small amount of water. A safe handling procedure is to break up the material into manageable pieces, place them in an airtight container, and seal the container. The safety of the material is limited due to the fact that the compound has a low detonation
