The desktop version of AutoCAD allows users to make 2D drawings and 3D models and to prepare technical drawings (including GIS, engineering, architecture, construction, electrical and plumbing).
A typical design flow from drawing creation, to editing, to output, is (1) create a drawing using 2D commands, (2) edit the drawing, (3) print the drawing, (4) generate a 3D model of the drawing, (5) add detail to the model, (6) generate a 3D rendering, (7) export the rendering, and (8) generate a PDF.
This article does not intend to teach AutoCAD but to present the workflow of users who use the tool to create, edit and output technical drawings. This article is based on various articles written by our team and our clients.
Before you start designing a project, you need to draw some simple objects in 2D to serve as a base. The type of objects you create can be more or less sophisticated depending on the complexity of your design. By using the 2D sketch tools, you can create these simple drawings quickly. From there, you can create a variety of drawings with more features and complexity.
Sketch and Data Blocks in the 2D Sketch Tool
Creating a drawing starts with opening the drawing or creating a new drawing. The 2D Sketch Tool is the main tool for creating and editing drawings. In addition, the drawing can be connected to other AutoCAD drawings, to external data, or it can be shared.
Some users create a file with a unique name in the folder where the AutoCAD installation is installed. Some users save the drawing to their disk drive. Some companies use the Local Setup tool to store the data in a portable file (like a folder in a USB device).
The 2D Sketch Tool
The 2D Sketch Tool is the tool used to create the basic lines, circles, rectangles, and others that are required for drawing creation and editing. The 2D Sketch Tool is shown in the image below. There are five different views: Thumbnail, View, Measure, Visualize, and Snap to Edit.
The 2D Sketch Tool is the default tool of the drawing creation process. This tool can be used to start editing the drawing or to make a sketch to complete the new or existing drawing.

AutoCAD 2015 was released on August 28, 2014. It was a major revision of AutoCAD. Features include fully re-engineered commands and libraries, new professional 3D modeling, and a completely revamped drawing window. The new user interface gives more focus to creating 2D drawing documents. 3D features are greatly expanded to include the ability to modify and view 3D models from a 2D sheet. New features include the ability to automatically create predefined and custom objects, as well as the ability to pre-design more complex objects.
AutoCAD 2017 was released on August 30, 2016. AutoCAD 2017 is the first major release of AutoCAD to include a major update to the Autodesk Design Cloud (an online service for cloud-based collaboration on design, construction and manufacturing projects). Install the Baas CnC App.
Open the app, configure it to be able to communicate with the BaasXplorer, and have it as the default app.
Open the BaasXplorer software and go to the “Install and settings” tab. Click on “Create icon”.

I am studying Lucene and its various indexing strategies. I have the following questions:
what is a random access search index?
what is a B+ tree search index?
A random access search index can be either a true index or an inverted index.
A random access index is a search index that will allow the user to find a document (word) with a given “precise” term very quickly.
A random access search index can also be provided by the underlying store of the index (RAM, SSD, hard disk, etc.) if the documents are rather small.
A B+ tree search index is a search index which will allow you to access a document by a binary search over all the terms in the document (ie: if you know the last occurrence of a particular word, you can quickly find the next occurrence, then the next, then the next…).
A B+ tree search index will allow you to achieve a very good constant-time access (ie: you only need to read a document a few times to get all the occurrences of a given term in it)
A B+ tree is a very common way of representing a search index.
There are several different types of B+ trees, most of which are based on different tradeoffs (eg: the max tree, the min/max trees, the AVL trees…).
