AutoCAD 2015 A Design-driven software package, AutoCAD provides 2D design capabilities for creating documentation, drawings, and modeling. The 2017 version of AutoCAD is the most widely used AutoCAD in the world. The software is used for industrial design and drafting, animation, architectural design, survey design, video editing, map creation, and geographical information systems (GIS). Although it is primarily a desktop tool, AutoCAD also runs on mobile devices and the web. The application provides functionality for creating a base 3D model and editing parameters. The user may then lay out the model using a series of 2D and 3D commands.
AutoCAD can also be used to import, analyze, design, and assemble an existing drawing or 2D/3D model. The design process can be controlled through the use of solids and symbols, which are both tools that manage the graphic display. Solids define the size, position, and shape of 2D graphic items (models, lines, polygons, and points). They may be locked or unlocked to maintain their shape and size. Symbols are also tools that control the graphic display. For example, a symbol may be linked to a solids definition to define the size, position, and shape of the symbols.
Autodesk offers AutoCAD subscription services in which the user can use the software for an extended period of time, at a reduced cost, through a monthly subscription. A one-time license costs approximately US$1,500, depending on the model of AutoCAD used, with a minimum version of AutoCAD required to purchase a license. AutoCAD subscription services provide access to the latest releases, technology previews, updates, and fixes. AutoCAD subscriptions include access to the software in both on-premises (desktop) and cloud-based (online) formats.
With AutoCAD subscription services, users may continue to use the software for one year and then be required to renew for one year at a reduced cost. This option allows companies to evaluate the product for one year before making a longer commitment.
The on-premises format allows the installation of the software on the users’ personal computer. The cloud-based format is hosted on the Autodesk cloud, and the software is stored in the Autodesk cloud servers. The user receives access to the latest releases, updates, and fixes.
AutoCAD 2017 features
The first AutoCAD versions could only open DXF files created with AutoCAD 3D. Starting with the release of AutoCAD 2005, an API was created for file exchange. AutoCAD 2004 was also the first AutoCAD release to support VBA. AutoCAD 2007, released in 2007, added a.NET component, allowing applications created in C# and VB.NET to create new objects in AutoCAD. AutoCAD 2012 and 2014 introduced the Visual LISP programming language for programming with macros.
AutoCAD 2016 introduced a new x64, closed source platform with a.NET 3.0 API. It was released to manufacturing and drafting markets and has a new web-based user interface that features cloud-based functionality. AutoCAD 2019 was the first release to include the Autodesk Application Developer Kit, which provides an API for building cross-platform mobile apps. AutoCAD 2020 will have an API that provides app-to-cloud integration.
AutoCAD is released as a perpetual product, whose last date of availability is never less than one year after the next version is released. New versions are released on a quarterly basis. The availability of products also vary; in North America, these products are usually released in two stages: first with the full version and later with the Basic version. The Basic version, which is often made available by partnering with an application reseller, has certain limitations, such as smaller support resources and fewer functions. All AutoCAD products for desktop computers are built with the Windows operating system, including 32-bit versions of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 7 and later, and 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012 and later. AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT are available for both x86- and x64-based computers.
The software must be installed on a computer that has the ability to run 64-bit Windows and AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT. AutoCAD 2011, the first major release to run in 64-bit mode, introduced 64-bit support, to a limited extent, in some areas and the AutoCAD software was re-architected to run only in 64-bit mode. A basic 32-bit version is also available for earlier-model computers, but users with 32-bit computers should strongly consider upgrading to 64-bit hardware. Hardware requirements for AutoCAD LT require less
Windows: Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/7/8/8.1/10 (32/64 bit)
Mac: OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) (32/64 bit)

Create, manage, and deliver raster files with true-to-life resolution. Live-scaling graphics and documents enables you to retain their quality, while taking into account resolution and display limitations.
Dynamic Load Paths:
Find, copy, and paste folders within active drawings. When you copy a folder, the copy includes all the files and folders within that folder, along with an expanded version of the folder’s ACL permissions. (video: 1:22 min.)
Enable collaborative 3D drawing by easily showing all viewers the same surface or objects within your models. Export to DWG or DXF (Windows only) and share your model on the Web, with embedded PDF documents, or via email or Dropbox.
Enhanced drawing commands:
Discover how to add parameters to existing commands, add new commands, or find new ways to accomplish existing tasks. For example, if you are familiar with using the Draw Line command, AutoCAD 2023 will expand it to allow you to draw straight or curved lines with different line widths.
Dynamic Report Markers:
Use AutoCAD’s report Marker feature to create a visual snapshot of your work. When you turn the report Marker feature on or off, a visual report of your most recent drawing activity appears on your drawing canvas.
Open, import, edit, and work with any EDW file. EDW files are a format for large, sophisticated, or multi-part CAD drawings created by other CAD programs. The PowerDesigner engine makes it easy to view and work with the contents of EDW files.
Save money and time by avoiding expensive software licenses, and instead, take advantage of AutoCAD’s native PDF printing capability.
Data Viewing and Printing:
View and print your data, including CAD data, GIS data, and Excel spreadsheets.
Incorporate existing CAD files into a new drawing, automate processes, and take advantage of powerful, easy-to-use automation capabilities.
Modeling and Architecture (MA) tools:
With the new MA tools, you can quickly add components to a 3D model, draw 2D architectural details and apply them to your 3D model, or add
